Independence Day!

The United States declared its independence from England on July 4, 1776. At that time there were 13 states in the north east part of today's United States. Today there are 50 states and the 50 white stars on the flag commemorate that. The 13 stripes remind us of the 13 original states. Our first president was George Washington and both the state of Washington and Washington, D.C. are named after him.
