An old-fashioned live-in girlfriend?

I think the terms have changed over the years!  When I'm indexing the 1940 US Census I come across entries like this now and then:

"Roomer" could be true, as there were quite a few roomers and lodgers listed in the 1940 census.  I'm guessing girlfriend.  "Roomer" sounds more quaint though.

What do you thik?
